Category: Haylage / Silage

Silage/haylage is high-quality green fodder preserved through fermentation. The grass, which still contains water, is compacted and sealed in an airtight container.

This produces a feed preserved by lactic acid fermentation, which is particularly suitable foranimals with allergies, dust sensitivity, and respiratory diseases.

Haylage and silage bales

At Heu-Tom, we specialize in the production of"small" wrapped round bales.

The small round bales offer adecisive advantagefor all livestock owners who do not consume enough feed to use a "normal" sized haylage bale.

The common problem:for smaller stables or feeding individual animals, a large bale is simply too much and will go bad before it can be completely used up/fed.

The Heu-Tom solution:

Small, handy round bales. We produce extra small round bales for our customers, which are perfect for smaller feed quantities.

The grass, which is still damp, is pressed into bales and packed in airtight packaging. The subsequent lactic acid fermentation preserves it and keeps it nice and juicy.

A distinction is made between two "moisture levels":

 1. Silage:Residual moisture content of approx. 55-65%

- moist and juicy

- Ideal winter feed for sheep, goats, cattle, etc.

2. Haylage: residual moisture content of approx. 40-50%

- rather dry

- very low dust

- Ideal for horses with asthma or respiratory diseases

- Less acidic and therefore somewhat more digestible than silage
